CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI — A fire causing heavy damage to a Charlottetown auto repair shop closed a section of Brackley Point Road on April 28.
Charlottetown Police closed the road in front of Mechanical Performance Auto Service to traffic as members of the Charlottetown Fire Department battled flames from the company’s garage, multiple Facebook videos show.
No information was available when SaltWire Network contacted the Charlottetown Fire Department, but an unnamed worker who was at the scene said the fire started shortly after 4 p.m.
Although the worker was not there when the fire broke out, he said other employees told him the fire started after sparks from a welding machine caught something in the studio. According to him, the fire spread and quickly got out of control.
No one in the store was injured when the fire broke out, the worker said.
Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control shortly before 8 p.m. Several members could be seen assisting a tow truck as it carried two burned-out vehicles out of the garage as other members sprayed other areas of the building.
A section of Brackley Point Road was still closed to traffic at 9 p.m.
