Police find unmarked RCMP vehicle stolen from Winnipeg auto shop

Police have recovered an unmarked RCMP vehicle that was stolen Tuesday morning from a mechanic shop in Winnipeg.

The black 2017 Ford Explorer was found abandoned on Gallagher Avenue in northwest Winnipeg, RCMP said in a news release Wednesday evening.

Earlier today, RCMP said the SUV was swept away while parked outside a business on Weston Street for regular maintenance.

A man entered the store just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, took the keys and stole the vehicle, police said.

The theft appears to be theft of opportunity, and there is no information to suggest the person stole the vehicle in order to pose as a police officer, RCMP said.

There were no police uniforms, firearms, body armor or other weapons inside, RCMP said.

No arrests were made.

The person who took the keys is described as having short black hair and wearing gray pants, a navy jacket with a hood, and blue-white running shoes. (Submitted by RCMP)
