Man shot dead in auto repair shop in the loop – CBS Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) – A 40-year-old man was shot and injured at a Loop auto repair shop on Saturday morning.

At approximately 10:55 a.m., an unknown offender approached a business in the 2200 block of South Wabash and began rummaging through a black Tesla trunk located on the victim’s lot. The assailant then sat in the driver’s seat of a white Mercedes also located on the victim’s property, police said.

The victim approached the perpetrator to ask for identification before the two began to argue. The assailant and victim both returned to a 2-Door Dark Challenger to receive the assailant’s ID. The attacker then snatched the victim’s phone and retrieved his phone.

As the victim turned to go back inside the business, the attacker fired 2 or 3 shots in his direction. The offender along with another offender who was seated in the dark colored Challenger fled the scene heading north on Wabash and then heading east on Cermak.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back and was transported to University of Chicago Hospital in stable condition.

No one is in custody. Area three detectives are investigating.
