GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) —
Antonelli’s Advanced Automotive hopes to help a member of our community in need by donating a car. They have a 2005 Ford Escape that they spent time fixing to be a reliable vehicle for a local in need. It’s not a new event either, Antonelli has a long history of donating. Dan Antonelli, the owner, told us, “I mean, even when I was a one-man shop, I would donate cars. People wouldn’t fix them and in my spare time I would fix them and donate them to church or someone you know who was passing by and needed them.
It is this original gift spirit that has evolved into its present gift. People can nominate a person or family by written submission – explaining why that person needs or deserves the vehicle. This is not an essay contest; they want it to be short – less than 150 words, but that limit doesn’t limit the impact it can have. Dan told us a success story of past gifts: “I know there was a single dad that ended up with, I think it was his sister’s kids all of a sudden and he didn’t didn’t have a big enough car and he was trying to take care of them and work and couldn’t fit it all in, and he got the car for a year and he also told us that over the years he gave cars to a man who helped other veterans and a woman who helped children with disabilities, so the impact is real.
Dan Antonelli saw the effect this gift can have on people’s lives, but the tradition started because he didn’t want to waste it. He explained: “I had the resources and I hated to scrap the car, so that’s really where it all started.”
The time is almost up if you want to make a difference. if you know someone in need, the deadline to submit an application is Friday, September 9.
