Local auto repair shops busy after snow storm

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) — Like tow truck businesses, auto repair shops have also been busy in recent days.

All that snow and ice can damage your vehicle and remind you that it’s time for repairs.

“As the roads are cleared, we’re starting to see more and more stuff happening,” said John Sneed, manager of a Plaza Tire in Cape.

Sneed tells me it’s no surprise they’re busy after the winter storm

“Cold weather tends to make certain things a bit more prevalent in terms of atmospheric pressures, and then some of it is ice and things where people slip into something or damage something as well,” Sneed said.

Sneed also said his crews were doing a variety of routine repairs.

“The lineups that we see a lot in this type of weather are slippery and people are slipping around wiper blades, like battery issues, tire issues, whether it’s people needing low tire tread and need better traction,” Sneed said.

A few customers do basic maintenance.

“Just an oil change,” said customer John Bradley.

“I’m going to change the oil and rotate the tyres. I need to be able to be on the road at all times, so I want to make sure the vehicle is in good condition,” said customer Patrick Morgan.

Sneed gave some tips to help drivers avoid common problems caused by winter weather.

“Make sure you have good tires on the vehicle, make sure they have enough tread and traction to get you going when you need them, make sure they are properly inflated, and make sure sure that all other maintenance is done on the car so you don’t end up having a problem that could have been avoided,” Sneed said.
