Indiana family retires from auto repair after 50 years

May 5, 2022 – The Farris family of Farris Auto in Lebanon, Indiana recently retired after 50 years in business.

According to the Lebanon Reporter, after generations of hard work, the family made the decision to sell the BP gas station they owned. They kept the car service business next door until recently when they sold it to JTR Repair.

“At the time, we had two wreckers,” said Greg Farris, according to the Lebanon Reporter. “We never closed. We were open seven days a week, 24 hours a day. We worked on the cars all day and all night.”

Over the years, the family has seen the community grow. Many new businesses have sprung up around the store and times have changed.

JTR Repair plans to keep pace by implementing more technology in the store and using more marketing efforts.

“We were always really busy because people knew us,” Farris said. “But this city has grown and you have to reach these people too.”

Since the family has operated the store for 50 years, they have befriended many customers along the way. Farris reports that after reporting they were retiring, dedicated customers called to convey their thanks for their service over the years.

Overall, the family is confident in their decision to sell to JTR Repair, which will now operate the workshop under the new name.

“We had two or three people interested in buying, but I didn’t like them,” Mark Farris said. “But these guys were the best. We thank all of our customers and like I say it’s bittersweet but these guys will handle it.”
