An auto repair shop in upstate New York was destroyed by fire on Monday evening. South Plattsburgh Fire Department crew members responded to reports of a fire just before 6 p.m. at Simpson’s Auto Repair, located in Schuyler Falls. “Firefighters arrived at the scene to find a fire well involved in the business,” the department later wrote in a social media post. Firefighters worked at single-digit temperatures in an effort to contain the blaze. The vessel was considered a “total loss” by the crews; no injuries were reported during the operation. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, according to South Plattsburgh fire officials. Teams from the City and Town of Plattsburgh departments were also dispatched to the scene. Additional assistance has been requested from six other departments in the region. Editor’s Note: This report has been updated to reflect additional information from fire crews.
