MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – We rely on vehicles to get us around, but as the weather gets colder, mechanics at Don Duncan All American Auto and Tire are reminding drivers to check their vehicles before hitting the road.
Auto service expert Preston Holleman recommends checking your tires, coolant, and vehicle battery.
Holleman says when drivers launch their vehicle in the cold, there’s a higher chance that the vehicle will stall.
Holleman also says vehicle batteries don’t always respond well to cold weather and advises starting a vehicle a few minutes before driving to reach a more efficient temperature.
“Another thing is tire pressure, a lot of tire pressure goes down when it’s really cold,” Holleman said.
Whether or not it displays on a vehicle’s dashboard, it’s ideal for checking a vehicle’s tire pressure and adjusting the pressure as needed.
Another thing that may need adjustment is a vehicle’s coolant.
And if you don’t feel confident in your control, Holleman recommends having a vehicle fully inspected.
Holleman says these inspections are preventative to keep you from getting stuck on the side of the road.
And if this happens to you, be prepared.
Holleman says it doesn’t hurt to have extra blankets and water.
If you don’t already know, find out how to change your tires if you need to put on a spare.
If you are looking for an auto shop that performs car inspections, Don Duncan has three locations in the river area.
