Atlanta Auto Shop will pick up your car and sanitize it so you can keep it running

As we all try to maintain social distancing, it can be difficult to keep up with certain tasks, like getting your car serviced. An auto shop on Buford Highway makes sure its customers can get their cars running without leaving their homes.

“I will do more just so I can help my town,” said Emil Alvin, owner of A&S Auto Services.

Alvin said he was doing everything he could to keep his business afloat. “Over the past three weeks, our activity has dropped to almost zero,” Alvin said.

Alvin’s clients said they dread leaving the house, even for those essential trips, so car maintenance hasn’t been high on the list.

“It’s just nerve-wracking because you go into stores, everyone’s wearing masks and you don’t want to talk to people, and people are nervous,” customer Paul Eccleston said.

So Alvin and his team have changed the way they operate to help calm your nerves and make sure your car is in working order so you can get the supplies your family needs.

“At these times when social distancing is important and you don’t want to go out, we come to you,” Alvin said.

Alvin and his team will drive anywhere in Atlanta to pick up your car, wrap your interior in plastic, bring it to the store for service, then completely sanitize it.

“All the plastic we use to cover the seats is single-use,” Alvin said. “We have gloves at every station, and our mechanics change them on the job,” he said.

“Taking these safety measures makes me feel much better and at ease right now,” Eccleston said.

Eccleston has just had Alvin fix his car, and as it was dropped off in his driveway, Alvin wiped down the keys, wrapped them in plastic, and left them in his client’s car.

“It’s definitely a different way of life and business, but it’s a sign of the times and it’s exactly what we need to do,” Eccelston said.

Getting by is what Alvin says he’s willing to do to keep his employees working and to make sure his community can move around safely.

“Hard times never last, only tough people do, and being tough sometimes comes with hurt and a little bit of pain, but we will endure,” Alvin said.

Alvin said if you don’t drive your car a lot, start it and let it run for a few minutes, and move the car a few feet back and forth in your driveway to keep the battery and tires in good shape. .
