JACKSON TWP. – Justin Smock said his auto repair shop on the west side of the township is growing to the point that a major move is needed, so he’s preparing to uproot to a bigger, more visible location.
All Makes & Models Auto Repair – nestled in Irish Square at 7993 Hills & Dales Road NW – plans to move into a new $700,000 home in late August or early September at 5257 Fulton Drive NW.
Smock’s new facility is being built behind the former McDonald’s restaurant property on Fulton Drive. Its grounds span 2.82 acres, which are adjacent to and just west of the Fishers Foods grocery store.
“We’ve grown over the years,” said Smock, who opened the auto repair business in 2015. “This (move) takes us from a three-bay shop to an eight-bay shop and will better serve our workload.”
The auto shop has four full-time employees. Smock said he will add a fifth employee once the business reopens at its new location. Workshop workers carry out repairs on between 10 and 15 vehicles a day.
“It could increase by two more (workers) if we grow as expected,” Smock added. “It was also important to stay close to our clientele (by staying in Jackson).”
All Makes & Models offers maintenance and repair services for foreign and domestic vehicles. Some services include tire sales, oil changes and wheel balancing, engine diagnostic checks, and brake and transmission repair.
“We pretty much do everything except body work,” said Smock, a 2001 graduate of Washington High School.
Construction on the roughly 6,600 square foot structure began in March, according to the Jackson Zoning Department. A mezzanine will be part of the new brick structure, Assistant Zoning Inspector Pat Primack said.
Including the purchase of the property and the new building, Smock said the price would total over $1 million. He bought the land from Fishers Foods.
The contractor for the construction project is Scheetz Building Corp., which is based in Jackson.
